KING Edmund Gym Club led the way again with some outstanding performances in the South West Schools’ Championships at the Gryphon Leisure Centre in Sherborne.
A ten-strong party of gymnasts left Yate for the tournament and they didn’t let down, with Shanie-Redd Thorne and Danielle Jones turning in a near-perfect performance to claim gold in the under-19 women’s pairs category, and Shannon McClurg and Courtney Hodge narrowly missing out on the same top prize in finishing up second in the under-14 section after a “very clean display.”
Tyler Kelly and Jake Underdown were also in good form to take runners-up spot in the under-19 men’s pairs, while Kelly went one better to clinch a gold medal in unison with Thorne in the under-19 mixed pairs event.
To wrap-up a great day for the club, Dove Strachan-Wills, Brieanne Foster, Jess Howard, Millie Theobald, Danielle Jones and Shanie-Redd combined to produce a great display of acrogymnastics for the enthusiastic and appreciative spectators.
Coach John O’Mahony enthused: “This was the ideal opportunity for our younger gymnasts to work with different partners in a more relaxed environment, without the pressures of more advanced levels of competition.
“It was a fun day and everyone enjoyed themselves.”
