DURSLEY moved off the bottom of the table with a fine win at Gordon League to boost their survival hopes.

The visitors started strongly with a raid into the Gordon League 22, which was only stopped by good work at the break down by the home side.

Even from deep inside their own half, Dursley showed ambition and a great break by centre AJ Caddick released winger Joe Jepps.

He returned the ball to Caddick, who unluckily stumbled, giving the covering defence chance to recover. However, this raid was not in vain and Dursley were awarded a penalty, which was slotted by Tom Broomfield.

This seemed to wake the home side up and after a good kick into the corner Gordon League scored the first try of the game from a catch and drive, giving them a 5-3 lead.

This did not seem to phase Dursley and after strong runs from Tony Niblett and Tim Wilcox, they found themselves once again just outside the League 22.

When Broomfield spotted space up the blindside, supported by Liam Akhurst for an extra few yards, this set up a platform for Scott Udal to crash over, again converted by Broomfield for a 10-5 lead.

Dursley were now rampant and this persistent pressure led to infringements from the home side, who had two men sent to the sin bin.

Dursley capitalised on the extra numbers when good link play between Wilcox and scrum half Jack Pearce put Joe Bilous over in the corner.

It went unconverted, but Dursley’s lead was stretched to 15-5. There was just enough time in the half for Gordon League to be penalised again, Broomfield taking the points on offer to give Dursley a half time lead of 18-5.

Gordon League started the second half strongly and after good pressure they capitalised on being back to 15 men with the first score of the second half to make it 10-18. Dursley were determined not to let the good work of the first half be undone and after more strong running from Wilcox, support by his back row partners of Sean Hughes and Jack Rowe, scrum half Pearce spotted a gap and sniped to the line, increasing the advantage to 13 points. When the influential Wilcox was sent to the bin for an illegal tackle Gordon League seized the moment and scored to make it a tense last ten minutes, but the Dursley defence stayed strong and held out for a vital win.
