Barnett Hicks, who played football for Sharpness and cricket for Brookend and Oldlands, has died

A POPULAR sportsman who was born and bred in Brookend has died at the age of 87.

Barnett Hicks enjoyed a successful career as a non-league footballer with Merthyr Tydfil in the Southern League and also played for Sharpness.

He played cricket for Brookend before they folded in the 1950s and then joined Oldlands.
