The Ridge School enjoy medal success at South West Schools Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships
9:00am Sunday 24th February 2013 in Sport
THE Ridge School won six gold medals at the South West Schools Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships.
They triumphed in the group, girls’ pairs, mixed pairs, boys’ pairs, disability and girls tumbling categories with all the winners qualifying for the British Schools Championships which will be held in Stoke-on-Trent in May.
Winston Powell will also join them after taking a silver medal in the boys tumbling as the club took a large haul of medals back to Yate, with all gymnasts finishing in podium positions.
A total of 24 pupils from the school travelled to Sherborne in Dorset to compete in the under-11 section. They competed together in teams of six, performing agilities and balance elements to music. Three teams were entered to allow the growing number of pupils who wanted to have a go at the competition this year. The gymnasts had been training during their lunch breaks, after school and even before school, in preparation for the competition. For some of the children this was their first experience of competition and a mixture of nerves and excitement buzzed around the school on the run up to the event. All of them left the competition having had an enjoyable and memorable experience.
