CHIPPING Sodbury School pupil Chloe Gowen has been named in the England judo squad.

The 12-year-old, who is a member of Patchway Judo Club, gained international recognition after finishing fifth at the national junior trials last month.

Gowen will be involved within the training programme throughout the year and from that will then be selected for international events.

Megan Fletcher, who teaches Geography at Chipping Sodbury School and is the current British -70kg women’s judo champion, said: “It’s the start of the road to success. “She has shown a great amount of potential and the England squads have obviously picked her up for the future.”
