Presentandcorrect gives Tim and Irene Sage victory in Didmarton point-to-point meeting
8:00am Saturday 16th March 2013 in Sport
KINGSCOTE-BASED couple Tim and Irene Sage epitomise the true spirit of point-to-pointing, with their small two-horse stable regularly taking on the “big” boys and beating them.
Presentandcorrect was their chosen representative in the members race at the Beaufort point-to-point in Didmarton and Mark Wall’s mount went to the front from the drop of the flag and as usual jumped superbly. Tim Sage’s gelding had gone clear entering the home straight and although jockey and horse had a disagreement at the last, they were soon back on an even keel and strode clear to prevail by four lengths.
Irene Sage said: “It’s 36 years to the day since Tim rode Brandenberg to win this prize.”
Approaching the penultimate fence in the Mixed Open, Offshore Account and Ned the Post started to put clear water between themselves and the opposition with the favourite holding a definite lead rounding the final bend. Offshore Account jumped away to the right at the final obstacle, which allowed Ed Barrett a second chance on Ned the Post. They were in front briefly half way down the run-in before Offshore Account rallied gallantly in the last ten yards to prevail by a head.
Charlie Deutsch and Victory Parade made what proved to be a race-winning move in the novice riders as they raced downhill towards the fourth from home. Victory Parade held a narrow advantage over Brodie Hampson and Lord Generous at the second from home but that combination drifted off the final bend. They jumped the last in unison but Victory Parade edged clear on the flat and stayed on in determined fashion to prevail by a length and a half.
