A TEENAGE cyclist from Berkeley beat a former Olympic rider at the second Navy Cycling Festival held on Sunday at RNAS Merryfield in Somerset.

Castle School student Etienne Georgi, 14, beat Colin Lewis in the final sprint of the Devil B race to complete a hat-trick of wins.

Lewis, who represented Great Britain at the 1964 Games in Tokyo and competed in the Tour De France, made a guest appearance for the afternoon’s racing and presented the prizes at the end of the day. Georgi won the juvenile section of the 3.1-mile prologue with a time of seven minutes, 39 seconds, placing him tenth overall in a field of 60 riders.

Partnered by fellow Giant CC Halo Films clubmate Neil Langdon, Georgi won first prize for fastest team with a juvenile rider in the next event, the 21-mile two-up time trial, clocking a time of 59 minutes, 47 seconds.

He then faced Lewis in an elimination event, where one rider is taken out each lap. Georgi finished the day with third place in the final 12-mile pursuit event behind senior riders with warrant officer Sean Childs in second place and Nick Harwood triumphing.

Etienne’s 12-year-old sister, Pfeiffer Georgi, who is a Year 7 Castle School student, competed in her first time trial events and with her mother, Louise Georgi, won first prize for the fastest team with a lady in the 21-mile two-up time trial. Pfeiffer was placed sixth in her Devil A race, whilst Louise won the lady’s 3.1-mile prologue event.
