Calor Southern League Division One South & West: Taunton Town 2 Yate Town 2
1:07pm Wednesday 21st August 2013 in Sport
YATE TOWN came from behind twice to earn a point at Taunton on Tuesday night.
The home side took the lead on seven minutes when Craig Harrod crossed and Nat Pepperall scored at the far post. Taunton goalkeeper Kyle Moore kept their lead intact when he pulled off a smart save from Yate captain Mike Bryant.
The visitors equalised in the 27th minute, though, when Lewis Haldane found space on the edge of the box and cracked the ball home.
Taunton were then awarded a penalty when Pepperall was brought down by Shaun Wimble in the box but when he stepped up to take the spot kick Josh Dempsey made a fine save. The home side regained the lead five minutes before half time through Sam Murray.
However, Yate showed their fighting spirit after the break and within seven minutes Ricky Hulbert seized on a loose ball to score his first goal for the club. Rob Cousins’ side ended the stronger and came closest to winning the game when a fierce Hulbert drive was acrobatically tipped over by Moore eight minutes from the end.
Yate: Dempsey, Cox, Wimble (Felix 45), Chandler, Seery, Abrahams, Lenihan, Bryant (c), Hulbert, Haldane, Jackson. Unused subs: Meaker, Rogers, Harrison, Horsell.
- Ross Staley missed the game at Taunton due to a hamstring strain but could return for Yate’s trip Guildford City on Saturday or their Bank Holiday Monday clash at home to Bishop’s Cleeve (3pm).
The club are also hoping to get international clearance for midfielder James Harmer so that he can be added to the squad.
Karim Rendall’s future is still uncertain as he remains registered with Yate, despite scoring for Winterbourne United in their 4-1 FA Cup defeat at Folland last Saturday.
