St Nicks to face Weymouth Town in their first South West Women’s Premier League at Yate Town FC

NEWLY-PROMOTED St Nicks Ladies play Weymouth Town in their opening game in the South West Women’s Premier League at Yate Town’s ground on Sunday 25, 2pm.
Since emerging from the ranks of the St Nicholas Girls Youth system in 2009/2010, the team has achieved promotion year on year to reach this level.
This success has given the club the opportunity to raise a reserve team. Their inaugural season begins in the Gloucestershire County Women’s Football League Division Two, with a home game at The Ridings in Chipping Sodbury on the September 8 against Almondsbury UWE.
Newly appointed manager, Iain Prior, is excited at the prospect of this new venture and welcomes any new players interested in signing for the fledgling team.
The creation of the reserve team gives young players, in particular, coming up from the youth ranks of St Nicks, the chance to experience senior women’s football in a measured way, as the step up is not to be underestimated.
This in turn can be very productive in further developing the young talent which St Nicholas youth have been nurturing for many girls since the age of seven.
Girls from in and around Yate and surrounding areas looking to play football are being welcomed to join a well-established youth football club, having been awarded the FA Charter Standard Development Award in 2008 by Sir Trevor Brooking.
