CONTINUING their summer of success, Berekey-based siblings, Etienne and Pfeiffer Georgi competed for England South in the seven-strong team at The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
Achieving their best place to date, the team came fourth overall out of 12 teams in British Cycling’s Inter Regional Track Championships.
Held over three days, the team competed across all nine events comprising Match Sprints, Scratch Race, Points Race, Keirin, Individual Pursuit, Time Trial, Madison, Team Sprint and Team Pursuit. Pfeiffer’s best showing was fourth in the 500-metre time trial whilst Etienne’s Team Pursuit narrowly missed a podium place in the Bronze Final.
On her return, Pfeiffer, 12, then crowned her success with her first win in the under-14 girls category in the last National Circuit Race of the season. Riding for Giant CC Halo Films, the race comprised part of the Scarborough Festival of Cycling and included three ascents of Oliver’s Mount, approaching a gradient of 20 per cent, unseen in any other youth race in the UK.
The Castle School pupils then saw action in the GHS National 10 mile time trial championship in Leicestershire. Named after George Herbert Stancer, OBE, a previous president of the CTC in the 1920s, a trust fund was established with the aim of promoting and encouraging participation amongst the young, culminating in the National Schools 10 mile championship, adopted by the RTTC in 1970.
Pfeiffer won the category for 12-year-olds with a time of 26 minutes, 48 seconds (22.39 miles per hour) and was placed seventh overall out of the 50 12 to 16-year-old female entrants. Etienne, 14, achieved fourth in his age category, posting a time of 24:16 (24.73mph).
Keeping it in the family, their father Peter Georgi, 47, riding for Giant CC Halo Films, won the European Track Masters Championship 10km Scratch Race in the 45-49 age category. Held this year at Newport Velodrome, Peter also took bronze in his age category in the individual pursuit.
