GIRLS in Frampton-on-Severn were given the cricketing lesson of a lifetime with a visit from Ashes-winning England players Lydia Greenway and Beth Morgan.

The pair coached around 70 girls aged eight to 11, from Lakefield, Longney and Whitminster Schools at Frampton-On-Severn CC to inspire the next generation of female players in the county.

Greenway was appearing after scoring her country’s highest-ever T20 score of 80 not out to clinch victory over Australia while Morgan has recently retired from a ten-year international career.

They also coached the girls at Chipping Camden School and ran a taster session at North Cotswold Young Cricketers CC the previous day.

Gloucestershire Cricket Board clubs and programmes officer Lisa Pagett said: “It was a fantastic couple of days and the girls absolutely loved having Lydia and Beth there.

“For them to be able to talk to their heroes and pick up tips from players who have done it at the very highest level was a great experience and one we hope will inspire them in their own cricket.”

Beth and Lydia were appearing in their roles as coaching ambassadors for the Cricket Foundation’s Chance To Shine campaign which aims to get more children playing cricket in state schools.
