TYTHERINGTON Rocks travelled to Reading to play in the first round of the league cup against East Division One side Woodley Town and came away with a well earned-win.
On nine minutes Tom Andrews received the ball and took it round the keeper but his shot was blocked on the line.
Rocks continued to do most of the attacking and chances were being created.
In the 28th minute Andrews fed Toby Colbourne, and his mis-hit shot fell to Joe Walters, who fired just wide of the post and then followed up with another close effort.
Rocks took the lead in the 33rd minute when a cross from Stuart Nelson on the right was palmed out by the keeper to Colbourne, who made no mistake to beat the keeper from ten yards out.
Within a minute, Rocks doubled their lead when a corner taken by Timmy Baker was met by Andrews, who headed firmly past the home keeper.
The second-half was only a minute old when, from a free kick, a Baker shot from the edge of the box scraped the cross bar before going over.
This was followed by a stinging shot from Andrews which was well saved.
Woodley got back into the game when, from a rare attack, Chace Jewel scored with a great effort from an acute angle.
Rocks were under a little pressure after this goal but weathered the storm, and came back to create many chances that were not taken until from a free kick in the 90th minute by Nelson on the edge of the box was headed well clear of the keeper by Colbourne to make the scoreline look more in keeping with the amount of play that the Rocks had during the game.
On Saturday, Rocks are at home to Old Woodstock,3pm.
Rocks Reserves beat Severn Beach by 3-2 at home to maintain third place in the Premier Division One of the Suburban League with a first goal at senior level from local lad Jim Brock, followed by goals from Nick Jones and Mark John.
