Berkeley Division One

Dursley 0 Wotton-under-Edge 6

THIS was, in theory, Dursley’s home fixture as they also play their fixtures at New Road but the psychological challenge of taking on Wotton on home turf was too much for them.

The first ten minutes were evenly contested with penalty corners at each end but a simple stop and crash shot at the third from Beccy Chalmers put the nominal visitors ahead.

Further Wotton pressure and a perfect piece of positional work from player of the match Heather Reid increased the lead and Jasmin George closed the half launching an unstoppable ball into the top right hand corner of the net.

Dursley showed some resistance at the beginning of the second half and held on for 20 minutes.

Emma Chalmers made it 4-0 from a penalty corner and Reid was only denied on a couple more occasions by inspirational work by the Dursley keeper. Sharron Bates blasted in the fifth at a short corner and increased her tally with an audacious waist-high volley in the closing minutes.

Wotton retain top spot in their own right as closest rivals Yate and Firebrands played out a draw.
