Gloucestershire Northern Senior League: Cam Bulldogs 0 Minsterworth 2 (Match Abandoned)

CAM BULLDOGS manager Simon Penny admitted he felt relieved after their game against Minsterworth failed to go the distance.

His side had just fallen 2-0 down early in the second-half when the referee decided conditions were unplayable due to a torrential downpour.

“I was quite happy to be honest,” said Penny, who felt the referee had no other choice but to call the game off.

“Their manager was quite sensible and said it was dangerous.”

Minsterworth took the lead midway through the first half after a great strike beat Adam Philp, the prolific striker who was in goal for an under-strength Cam side.

As the downpour got heavier during the interval, conditions rapidly deteriorated and the ball stopped kindly in the surface for Minsterworth to score their second goal, shortly before play was stopped.

Penny said: “Up until then we were playing very well and in the first half we had most of the possession.

Although Cam have won four of their five games so far, Penny has played down their chances of mounting a title challenge.

He said: “On the whole I’m quite happy with it. We’ll just try our best to get in the top half but it’s a very tough league.”
