Letcombe 0 Tytherington Rocks 2

TYTHERINGTON remain top of the table after beating bottom side Letcombe.

Rocks were on top from the start, but it took a little time before a packed Letcombe defence allowed them to get any shots on target.

With 30 minutes gone Letcombe were unlucky not to take the lead when a shot from their forward struck a Rocks defender and deflected just past the post.

The best chance of the game came after 35 minutes when Justin Bishop did all the hard work in beating two defenders and would have scored but for a good block by Letcombe keeper Danny Joyce.

In the 44th minute Rocks scored their first goal after a good run on the left by Jack Smyth, whose cross to Joe White in the penalty box was firmly tucked past the keeper to put Rocks one up.

The second half started with Rocks now playing against the wind and keeping the ball on the ground with good movements between the midfielders and strikers.

A free kick by Stuart Nelson in the 50th minute was met by Toby Colbourne, whose header was tipped over the bar by keeper Joyce.

This was followed a few minutes later when Smyth burst through the middle only to shoot wide of the post.

With Rocks now doing most of the attacking it came as no surprise when they went further in front after an excellent through ball from Smyth to Bishop, who beat a defender and scored from 15 yards to complete the scoring.

Manager Gary Powell rang the changes with subs Tom Andrews, Rob Cave and Luke Lecrass coming on, and nearly scored their third when Andrews' shot was well saved by the keeper.

Whilst Rocks did not look like losing it was not all way one traffic as Letcombe played their part in this game and proved that with a little luck going their way they should soon start moving up the table if they can maintain their fighting spirit.

On Saturday Rocks are away to Highmoor Ibsis in the League Cup at Reading.

Rocks Reserves drew 1-1 away to Easton Cowboys with Nick Jones scoring their only goal and Cowboys getting the equaliser with five minutes to go.

On Saturday they are at home to Ridings High, 2.30pm.
