TWO defeats in the past week have seen City drift further from safety in League One and the pressure really is now mounting on boss Sean O’Driscoll.

Six-hundred-and-twenty City supporters travelled to Crewe last Saturday – a very impressive number given City’s last league win away from home came in December 2012. But we came away frustrated and disappointed after throwing away another late goal in suicidal fashion.

Despite the defence generally looking solid throughout – midfielder Scott Wagstaff chose the wrong time, the 90th minute to be precise, to throw in a reckless challenge on Crewe striker Moore who got up and slotted home the resultant penalty kick.

I felt our main issue at Crewe was forwards Emmanuel-Thomas and Baldock not working closely as a partnership.

This also seemed to be the case for the visit of Brentford on Tuesday night.

Despite dominating possession in the first half we fashioned few chances.

In the second half, realising that we offered little actual threat in front of goal, the away side grew in confidence and committed more men forward.

Consequently, the Bees got on top in the second period and inevitably took the lead late on when Saunders pounced on a misplaced Reid pass and drove a deflected shot home from 25 yards.

City heads dropped and a few minutes later Donaldson was able to score the easiest of chances as he pounced at the back post to make it 2-0.

Our consolation from substitute Harewood was too little too late and boos rang around Ashton Gate as our winless run in the league extended to 21 games.

City travel to Cumbria on Saturday to face Carlisle United (3pm) who are on good form following a poor start to the season.

Now five points adrift of safety, City need results quickly, otherwise a second successive relegation begins to become a real possibility.
