CITY’S turnaround in form continued last weekend with a third win in four games, as Dagenham and Redbridge were comfortably brushed aside in the FA Cup first round at Ashton Gate.

The visitors are only one point off the play-offs in League Two and prior to the game their leading scorer Rhys Murphy had boldly stated that City “were there for the taking”. But maybe Murphy hadn’t consulted with his manager before making this claim, as Dagenham played large spells of the game with 10 men behind the ball.

As a result, City were able to slowly pick apart The Daggers. In the first half Jay Emmanuel-Thomas drove in a deflected shot to put City ahead. Then late on substitute Elliott added a second before Emmanuel-Thomas struck home the goal of the game to make it 3-0.

Emmanuel-Thomas is on a rich vein of goalscoring form with an amazing seven goals in his last four games. The former Arsenal man already has 14 goals to his name this season. Whilst it may become a reality that he will have to be sold in the not too distant future to help balance the books, currently it is an absolute joy to watch such a fantastic player in the form of his life.

He has been accused in the past by supporters (myself included) for not putting a proper shift in but on Saturday he worked hard for the team as well as getting his goals. If he keeps this level of performance up there’s bound to be interest from other clubs but my gut feeling is he’ll at least see this season out in a Bristol City shirt.

City’s reward for winning on Saturday is a visit to Conference side Tamworth on Sunday, December 8 in a game to be shown live on ITV1 at 2pm. The City players will be only too aware of the possible embarrassment of going out to non-league opposition.

This Saturday City return to league action as we make the long trip to face Tranmere Rovers, who we are only ahead of on goal difference and a win would see us move further away from the drop zone.
