ROVERS still have a chance of progressing to Round Two of the FA Cup but will have to overcome York in a replay after a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

The Pirates suffered a blow after going 1-0 down in the first half but Eliot Richards soon restored parity, continuing his good run of form this season with some nifty footwork and clinical finishing in the box.

A 30 yard wonder strike put the Minstermen ahead again, leaving us trailing at half-time.

However the impressive spirit shown in recent matches was apparent again as the players refused to let their heads drop and were determined to use their battling qualities to get back into the game.

Matt Harrold marked his return from injury by scoring with his first touch with a well taken header after coming off the bench.

When Chris Beardsley scored his first goal for the club since arriving on loan from Preston with another deft header, it looked as though the Gas would be preparing for the second round draw on Sunday.

Unfortunately with just a few minutes left to go Mildenhall made an uncharacteristic fumble at a cross, allowing the ball to squirm through his hands for York to net the equaliser.

It was a night to forget for the Pirates’ goalkeeper as he failed to show his usual assurance when coming for the cross that led to York’s first goal of the night.

However it is important to remember he has saved us on several occasions already this season and at least his late error did not cost us the match.

If we win the replay next Tuesday we will face Crawley at the Memorial Stadium in Round Two. It it is a winnable tie that offers the prospect of making the exciting third round, so it should provide a good incentive to finish the job at Bootham Crescent.

Meanwhile it is back to league action on Saturday as strugglers Bury visit the Mem, where a home victory is essential to clinch three important points and maintain the recent good momentum.
