Hellenic League Division One West

Tytherington Rocks 5 Carterton 0

JOE WHITE hit a hat-trick as Tytherington opened up a three-point lead at the top of the table with a comfortable victory over Carterton.

The game went as league positions dictated but the score would have been at least double but for Carterton keeper Harry Ellis, who was the star player of the game, keeping out shots that normally would have resulted in goals. His display was the best by any keeper that the home team has faced this season.

It took until the 13th minute before Rocks opened the scoring when Sam Taylor on the right crossed deep for Justin Bishop to head in at the far post and continue his goalscoring spree, bringing his total to 17 this season.

For the remainder of the first half, Rocks continued to lay siege on the Carterton goal.

However, keeper Ellis saved point blank shots from White and Bishop, and chances went begging for several other players.

Half-time came with no further goals and Rocks keeper Kevin Freeman had not had to deal with any shots from the opposition.

The second half was only four minutes old when from a free kick on the right by Taylor found White, who scored from close in to put Rocks two up.

On sixty minutes Taylor was brought down in the box and Stuart Nelson scored after his first shot from the penalty spot was saved and came back out to him.

With Rocks now completely dominating the game they scored again after good interplay resulted in a cross from Nelson to White, who scored low into the corner of the net for number four in the 67th minute.

The final goal of the game came when Tom Andrews was brought down on the byline resulting in a second penalty for Rocks, taken by White, who duly completed a fine hat-trick.

This win keeps Rocks on top of the table and they now look forward to a busy December with three home and two away games.

Rocks play Tuffley Rovers at home on Saturday, 3pm.

*Tytherington reserves are home to Downend Foresters in The Bosley Cup under floodlights on Wednesday, December 11 (7.45pm).
