ADY Pennock has consigned Prozone to Room 101.

The Forest Green boss has gone back to basics and insists his eyes see the bigger picture.

Prozone was the previous choice of former boss David Hockaday, but Pennock has quickly binned the analytical take on football, which tracks players’ passing and running.

He said: “I am a great believer in what I see ¬¬- and my eyes don’t lie, so I don’t need a bit of paper.

“The most important stat is the scoreline and I don’t want Prozone for the sake of having it.

“When I was at Stoke we tried it, but quickly found the lads were coming in after a game and wanting to know more about how many passes they had completed and how far they had run.”

Rovers started the season with a sports psychologist, but Pennock is doing things his own way.

“I am the players’ sports pyscologist, so this is something we don’t need,” he said.

Rovers were without a game last weekend, but Pennock was pleased to see the squad gain some respite.

He said: “It has helped to have a break with a few little niggles and injuries and has been a good time for Tim Grigg (sports therapist) to get his magic hands on people and get them back for the trip to Chorley in the FA Trophy on Saturday.”

The former Stoke City coach granted the squad some family time ahead of a busy Christmas period.

“The players were given weekend off to give them a little bit of time at home and do a bit of Christmas shopping before a very busy Christmas time.”

Pennock is expected to go shopping in the January transfer window, but has been pleased with the squad he inherited from Hockaday.

He added: “The squad have been spot on in training and in the games different class, but we’ve got to keep on improving."

Kieron Forbes (flu) is expected to return to the squad for the trip to Chorley in the FA Trophy second round on Saturday.
