LEISURE @Cheltenham hosted Badminton Gloucestershire Performance Centre’s U15 Bronze Tournament recently.
Players born on or after 1 Jan 1999 from all over the UK entered.
Henry Jones and Rory Farwell, who are both from Wotton-under-Edge and attend Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School, won bronze medals in the Boys’ Doubles, each with different partners.
A fine display by Cavan Evans, who lives in Oldbury-on-Severn, and Paul McCrimmond saw them win the Boys’ Doubles gold in a relatively easy final while representing Avon.
Filton-based McCrimmond completed his collection of medals with bronze in the mixed doubles.
Joanna Gresty produced the best Gloucestershire result by winning the silver medal in the Girls’ Singles from a field of 26 entrants.
In their second engagement of the 2013/2014 season Gloucestershire, in Division Two of the County Championship, lost against Oxfordshire, who now head the table.
Sol Griffiths and Ben Lallement suffered defeats but Becky Pantaney and Nicola Gresty won their matches to make it 2-2.
Gresty produced a fine result, romping home 21-11 and 21-5.
The men emulated their singles results in the first round of the level doubles by dropping both matches.
The ladies once again kept Gloucestershire’s hope alive with two fine wins in the ladies’ doubles. Zoe Balfour and Becky Pantaney won 21-17 and 21-16 with the No2 pair of Nicola Gresty and Kerry Phillips winning 21-19 and 21-15.
The second round of level doubles matches saw the honours shared.
In the ladies level doubles Phillips and Gresty fought bravely, only to lose against the Oxfordshire No 1 pair 21-19, 11-21, 16-21.
Balfour and Pantaney lived up to their rankings with a relatively easy 21-12, 21-17 win.
Oxfordshire took all three mixed doubles to reverse the 9-6 score in the previous meeting, which Gloucestershire won.
