Winterbourne United 0 Bristol Manor Farm 5

WINTERBOURNE United chairman Robyn Maggs was left with mixed emotions after their heavy defeat against Bristol Manor Farm.

The artificial surface at Oaklands Park ensured the game was one of the few to go ahead in the area on Saturday after torrential rain and it attracted Bourne’s biggest crowd of the season with 157 hardy souls keen to get their football fix.

However, Winterbourne were swept aside by a high-flying Manor Farm side, with Jack Durrant hitting a hat-trick.

“We benefited from a lack of action,” said Maggs, delighted with the attendance.

However, he added: “The result wasn’t a surprise but it was disappointing losing by a heavy score.

“The scoreline doesn’t reflect a good game. Those who watched could see we were right in it.”

Oaklands Park landlords, the Gloucestershire FA, installed a new all-weather 3G pitch last year and it has proved a hit with Maggs, who said Winterbourne have agreed a new three-year lease to remain there after the end of this season.

“If it’s not the best in the league it’s one of the best,” he said.

Manor Farm were in charge from the start and deserved their early lead with George Brimson finding the net after four minutes.

However, Winterbourne gave as good as they got, and they kept the visitors out until the break.

The match remained an even contest for the first 25 minutes of the second period but then The Farm regained control with a trio of well worked goals.

Durrant’s powerful header chalked up goal number two and then the same player hammered home the third from the edge of the area.

A simple tap-in from Brimson produced the fourth Manor Farm goal of the afternoon.

Winterbourne waved goodbye to any hope of a revival when they were reduced to ten men as the referee produced a red card to Karim Rendall.

The visitors then hit a late fifth goal with Durrant completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
