MORE than 50 golfers have attended the annual Christmas Cracker contest at Thornbury Golf Centre, wrapping up the festive fun for this year.

Sixteen teams took to the challenging and picturesque Marlwood Course at Thornbury for the fourball better-ball competition, with two scores counting at each hole and all scores counting on par-three holes.

The winning team, consisting of Barry Williams, Nick Davies, Tim Batt and Neil Bartholmey, racked up 111 points at the public pay-and-play centre, closely followed by Alexander Hick’s team, who scored 110 to finish ahead of third-placed Hamish McLean’s team on countback .

Following the golf, competitors enjoyed a post-round Christmas lunch in the comfortable Thornbury clubhouse where the prize-giving took place, including Nearest to the Pin winners – Steve Baker and Alwyn Huteson .

Richard Dakin, Thornbury Golf Centre General Manager, said: “As with many of our events staged throughout the year, the annual Christmas Cracker contest is open to golfers from across the region and it’s rewarding to see so many new and familiar faces coming together to compete and celebrate together in the festive season.”
