Athletics: Thornbury runner Rowland finishes second in category at Hangover 10k

AT WESTON AC's Hangover 10k on New Year's Day, Thornbury Running Club's Ros Rowland, who most certainly did not have a hangover, came second in the F50 category in 70th place overall in a time of 47:27.
Neil Roff was the only other Thornbury entrant, 77th in 48:28.
Andrew Darton made his usual appearance at the Round the Lakes 10k at Poole on Boxing Day, but was disappointed with his run, finishing in 40:09.
Whilst in the area he ran the Yeovil parkrun, which uses part of the grounds of the National Trust's Montacute House.
The route is less flat and even than many parkrun courses, and as the weather had provided several water jumps he was happy to finish third in 20:25, well outside the time he would expect on the flat.
Paul Thomas ran the Bramhall parkrun in 20:24; his third over that course and a personal best (PB) by 30 seconds, though the course is clearly a lot more challenging than Little Stoke where he has previously cracked 19 minutes.
For Thornbury members' first organised event of 2014 was the Little Stoke parkrun at 9am on New Year's Day.
John Francksen chose to volunteer at this event, but then with many of the others scurried across to Ashton Court where he finished 117th in 30:58 over their hilly parkrun course.
There were parkruns as usual on Saturday, with Garry Slater first for the cub at Little Stoke, 16th in 19:32.
Paul Thomas was not far behind, 22nd in 19:44.
Kevin Arnold finished in 21:26, and John Francksen in 27:54.
Despite being almost totally on tarmac pathways, a lot of standing water meant many wet feet, and no personal bests for the club runners.
Thornbury Running Club meets at 7pm on Thursday evenings at Thornbury Leisure Centre and new members are always welcome. For more details see thornburyrunningclub.co.uk
