NORTH Nibley Primary School triumphed at the Stroud District Small Schools Indoor Athletics Competition held at Wycliffe College.

The competition included track and field events, both individual and team.

North Nibley were represented by 19 Year 5 and 6 pupils, each taking part in two track and two field events.

As this was a level two competition, it was very keenly fought, but as winners North Nibley will go on to represent the Stroud District in the level three county competition in February.

Although North Nibley had not competed in such an athletic competition previously and many of the events were unfamiliar, the children adapted extremely well and were not fazed by this.

There were many hard fought races and superb individual and team performances, where the children had to dig deep and be determined enough to challenge and often win through over their competitors.

The team spirit was second to none, all encouraging and cheering each other as they competed in their events.

After 14 events had taken place, for both the boys and the girls, the children waited excitedly while the competition organisers added up the scores.

The North Nibley children knew they had done well but it was not until the announcement was made that they knew that they had not only clinched it, but had won by an incredible margin of 36 points, finishing on 144 points overall.

Mrs Ali Dixon, PE teacher at North Nibley Primary School, was delighted with everyone’s performance and attitude.
