Bristol & District League round-up

SIMON PERNELL was the man of the moment as his four goals helped Old Sodbury Reserves to a 6-1 win over Wick A to keep the pressure on teams above them in Division Four should any slip up in their games in hand.

Chris Randle and Tom Edmunds completed the scoring.

Wick A remain 10th.

The Senior Division is topped by a new leader after the only game of the day saw Pucklechurch Sports battle to a 4-3 win away to Hallen A, in the process securing top spot ahead of Bristol Barcelona.

Simon Night scored twice for seventh-placed Hallen but it was Pucklechurch’s fifth straight win that sees them to first place with a two point cushion – although they have played at least two games more than most of their title rivals.

Chipping Sodbury Town Reserves’ 3-0 cruise past Stanton Drew in Division One could yet have relegation implications for the latter, not that Town will worry; Dan Randell and Dave Cox (2) securing all three points for them.

In Division Two, Bendix bounced back from their pre-Christmas 6-1 thrashing against Real Thornbury to beat Iron Acton Reserves to keep up with what is effectively a race for second place thanks to goals from Shawn White (2), Jamie Price and Ryan Wyatt.

Their fellow contenders, Cribbs ‘A’, beat struggling Lloyd Coalpit Heath 3-1 away from home.

The only game in Division Three saw second-placed Stapleton travel to midtable Bristol Barcelona Reserves.

Unfortunately for the home side they couldn’t put on a display typical of their Spanish namesake and were on the end of a 7-0 drubbing with almost half the away side getting in on the humiliation act: Luke Clarke (2), Grant Wolsey (2), Matt Denten, Harry Selman and Callum Gardener all finding their way onto the scoresheet.

Stapleton seized the lead from Patchway North End, whilst Barcelona haven’t won in six.
