Broad Plain U13s 15 Dursley U13s 22

DURSLEY travelled to Bedminster to take on Broad Plain for the first time in what were truly atrocious squally conditions with driving rain and extremely strong winds.

This didn't deter the 28 visiting players though from putting in their strongest performance of the season against a big and powerful team, with a very hefty pack.

Period one saw good pressure from both sides in turn, with Broad Plain securing the only score just before the whistle.

The break allowed Dursley to replace the majority of players, and Broad Plain capitalised with an early second try.

The visitors didn't capitulate though and fought back with some strong scrummaging and rucking before Solo Tomlinson was the quickest to react to a loose ball over the try line after significant pressure.

Broad Plain again stretched the lead to two tries before Adam Powell secured a 2-2 draw for period two, taking the game to 15-10.

Dursley's larger squad started to tell in period three with another change of players allowing the now muddy maroon and gold shirts to successfully defend significant home pressure, before very positive team rugby saw the ball into winger Ethan Doody's hands to cross the line in the corner.

Yet more home pressure followed, but Dursley somehow managed to resist several good opportunities, before getting the ball to No8 Todd Newnes to power his way through several attempted tackles and run 90 yards for what became the winning try.

The luxury of going through under the posts also allowed Dursley the one successful conversion of the day.

The Dursley players of the week awards recognised Dominic Stephenson after several huge tackles, including two definite try savers, and Toby Marsh, who did a terrific job at both prop and flanker.
