THE final race of the Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country League saw a string of excellent results for the Dursley RC ladies and top notch results from two of the clubs stalwarts in the men's V60 Category.

The final race was over the flood plains of Plock Court.

Health and safety considerations meant that runners did not go through the deepest water, but they still had to navigate through the shallow standing water. This did not deter any of the Dursley runners. They only managed one full women’s team for a change, which managed to come eighth in the Ladies Open category and fourth in the Masters.

Yet again it was left to the older and wiser males to represent Dursley and as ever they did the club proud.

Overall, Dursley had a great series, the only down side being the lack of impact in the men’s categories apart from the V65 category, in which the club provided the winner and a further two runners in the top ten.

The women’s masters team was the pick of the crop, placing second in the series, just 40 points behind Team Bath, and well ahead of all their county rivals.

Rebecca Topham and Kate Browning finished first and second respectively in the FV40 category with Erica Fuller 12th.

Margaret Johnson placed third in the FV45 category, while Chris Ashworth placed ninth MV55.

Graeme Hawkins and Trevor Lewis placed first and third respectively in the MV65 category with Roly Hobbs a few places back in seventh position.

Both Zoe Lamerton and Alice Lewis had stood very good chances of a top three category finish but missed that vital third race.

Race results – Senior Men: Graeme Hawkins 122nd, 42:57 (1st MV65); Trevor Lewis 161st, 47:46 (4th MV65)

Senior Woman ; Rebecca Topham 17th, 29:52 (1st FV40); Kate Browning 22nd, 30:34 (3rd FV40); Margaret Johnson 53rd, 34:32 (7th LV45); Eric Fuller 69th, 36:14 (15th FV40); Mel Williams 80th, 38:05 (13th LV50).

Ladies open: Dursley (A) 8th

Ladies Masters: Dursley (A) 4th.

Series team results – Ladies Open: Dursley (A) 6th.

Ladies Masters: Dursley (A) 2nd.

The 21st running of the Linda Franks event saw two Dursley Running Club members competing.

Neil Parry was first home, running a steady race in just under 06:30 per mile pace.

Alice Lewis, as ever, was highly placed in her category ,15 seconds behind the category winner.

The race was won in a time of 27:34 by Anthony Bailey of Cheltenham Harriers.

Result: Neil Parry 31st 32:08 (7th MV45); Alice Lewis 102nd 37:11 (2nd FV55)

Kate Browning made the journey south to test her speed over 5k at the Pomphrey Series but she could not match her personal best from earlier in the season.

Result: Kate Browning 21:38, 65th, 4th FV35.

Despite the new slimline version, Dave Halford had to make do with being Dursley's lanterne rouge on the most testing Mayhill Massacre course.

Browning, despite her excellent run on the previous day, finished second in her category, just 51 seconds in front of Jonathon Tudor.

Den Evans had a good run to finish 90th in 01:33:36.

Results: Kate Browning 68th, 01:30:04 (2nd FV40); Jonathon Tudor 71st, 01:30:55; Zoe Lammerton 114th, 01:37:45 (9th Senior Female); Sue Peachy 125th, 01:39:46 (9th FV40); Julian Peachy 126th, 01:39:46; Dave Halford 130th, 01:40:34.

The club runs from Dursley Rugby Club on Tuesday nights. Meet at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start.
