YATE ABC has only been open three years but is now really starting to take off.

The club has enjoyed success recently with Joshua Field, 13, and Ben Jones, 12, having been invited to train with the Western Counties squads at Devizes on last weekend.

Their last tournament at Yate Leisure Centre was very successful for themselves and also for neighbouring club Synwell ABC in Wotton- Under- Edge, who Yate coach Ken Lee has strong links with.

Yate boxers Alfie Boulton , Ned Cash and Tom Brunn all did very well in their skills bouts and appear to have bright futures.

Callum Slade avenged a loss at the end of last season by beating Connor Powell of Lympstone ABC on a unanimous points decision.

Jones won against formerly unbeaten Cambourne ABC boxer Mark Curnow on a unanimous points decision.

Field won unanimously against the more experienced Jack Silk of Lympstone, bringing his record to five wins from six bouts.

Michael Cash won his contest by a unanimous points decision against Mustapha Hannon from Portsmouth ABC.

Yate’s seniors were put under pressure as all junior boxers had won well, and they didn’t disappoint.

Sam May won against Alex Fish of Devizes ABC unanimously and Jon White also won unanimously against Adrian Kotic of Hamiltons Green ABC, despite an injury to his shoulder in the final round.

Local policeman Dan Andrews carried on the winning ways against Blackmore Vale ABC super heavyweight David Baird, bringing his record to four wins from four.

Yate’s next tournament takes place at Yate Leisure Centre on Saturday, February 15. Doors open at 6.30pm with the first bell at 7.30pm.

Adult tickets are £10 and under-16s pay £5.

There will be 16 Yate boxers in action and four Synwell boxers taking part.

The club now has 13 carded juniors and six carded seniors that are registered with the Amateur Boxing Association.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are regularly getting over 20 boys ranging from nine to 14-years-old.

Mondays and Wednesdays are Seniors Night (7pm to 8.30pm), while Sunday evenings are also open for Veterans session (boxercise) from 7pm to 8.30pm.
