North Glos Veterans Football League

North Nibley 1 Shortwood Utd 1

IN FRONT of a bumper Sunday morning crowd, North Nibley played out an entertaining draw with league high-flyers Shortwood Utd.

North Nibley made a good start with Dave Nash, Chris Jones, Mat Young and Rich Gillingham having lots of good quality ball but without making any real chances.

Lots of the first half was played in the Shortwood half, with the defence of Jon Cruse, Dan Greening, Shaun Cowle and James Drennan limiting shots on Simon Bean’s goal from long distance.

Nibley started the second half strong with Chris Thomson directing play in the midfield.

This possession turned into a 1-0 lead for North Nibley when a good ball from Chris Jones was well finished from 12 yards by Rich Gillingham.

The lead only lasted only 10 minutes when some confusion in the back four allowed the Shortwood forward to sneak in and equalise.

Nibley could have snatched all three points in the last minute when Pat Young went close.

North Nibley entertain Whitminster Veterans at Rednock AWP on Sunday.

Star man: Shaun Cowle.
