FA Vase Fifth Round

West Auckland Town 2 Hallen 0

HALLEN’S marathon trip to the north-east came to nothing, but they had their chances against high-flying West Auckland and could have at least forced a replay. The first half was a fairly even affair with Hallen having the advantage of the wind.

The Toolstation boys might have taken the lead early on but a well directed shot by Mark Fear was tipped over the bar by home keeper Jordan Nixon.

With half-time approaching the home side pushed forward and when a well hit cross was not dealt with by the Hallen defence, Mattie Moffat managed to scramble the ball over the line for the opener.

With neither side managing to gain the upper hand, the second half was15 minutes old when a West Auckland attack saw Hallen defender Dan Dunt push a goal bound shot by John Campbell away with his hand.

This resulted in a red card for Dunt and a penalty, which was deftly converted by Campbell.

Hallen struggled to recover from this and did well to keep West Auckland from any further goals.
