GFA Intermediate Cup Semi-Final
Charfield 4 Fintan 1
CHARFIELD reached the final of the County Cup for the first time in over ten years after a competitive game against Fintan from Cheltenham.
After an evenly contested first 20 minutes, Charfield took the lead from a Simon Miles penalty after a Kevin Spill goal-bound shot was handled on the line.
With Zach McAllister and Phil Miles taking control in the middle of the park and beginning to get the upper hand, Charfield surprisingly conceded five minutes before half-time.
Charfield took the lead again in the 55th minute when a header by Miles from pinpointed cross gave the goalkeeper no chance.
The game swung in Charfield's favour five minutes later when when the referee signalled a goal for Fintan after an excellent corner, only for the assistant referee to put up his flag for an infringement.
Charfield extended their lead 20 minutes from the end when man of the match Liam Wood, who had run the opposition centre halves ragged all afternoon, pounced on a through pass and rounded the keeper to score.
With Paul Lyon and Matt Davies dominating in defence and goalkeeper Craig Luker pulling off a couple of decent saves the game began drifting away from Fintan.
In the 80th minute with the game stretched, substitute Adam Spiers put the match beyond doubt with a simple tap-in after being set up by Phil Miles.
