YATE Town boss Rob Cousins was left to rue missed chances following their defeat at play-off chasing rivals North Leigh on Saturday.

The home side scored all three goals in the second half after Yate had failed to make the most of playing down the big slope first.

Cousins said: “We did ok for an hour Saturday. With the advantage of playing down the slope in the first half we didn’t take the chances we had which proved costly, as it's always better to be a goal or two up knowing you have to defend up the slope in the second half.

“We had chances to get back into the game after they had gone one up but again it didn’t happen. “We seemed deflated by the goal and never really got any momentum going again thereafter until it was too late. We are very much a Jekyll and Hyde team at the moment.”

Bristol City Academy goalkeeper Conor Cable was drafted into the Yate side with regular number one Martin Horsell absent due to work commitments.

Bradley Abraham (back), Mitch Harrison (concussion), Ross Staley (hamstring) and Michael Meaker (unavailable) were also missing for Yate but they were boosted by the return of 27-goal striker Lewis Haldane.

The Bluebells started the stronger with Adam McHugh tipping away a close-range shot from Luke Bryan.

At the other end, Yate keeper Conor Cable palmed away a right-foot strike from Conor McDonagh. But Cable was helpless when Jon Else’s header from Kieran Sanders’ cross hit the bar.

The Millers went ahead 11 minutes into the second half.

Elliott Osborne-Ricketts picked out McDonagh, who turned and hit a low shot past Cable into the far corner.

It wasn’t long before North Leigh doubled their lead.

Taking a pass in the opposition half, Osborne-Ricketts charged for goal and hit a terrific 20-yard left-foot shot into the far corner on 66 minutes.

The Millers sealed victory with the goal of the game in the 74th minute.

Sanders charged forward before unleashing a 25-yard shot that dipped and swerved past a stunned Cable.

North Leigh then eased home with little difficulty.

Yate are now four points adrift of the play-offs in eighth ahead of their visit to Godalming Town on Tuesday night.
