FOREST Green Academy starlet Dan Martin has joined Nailsworth neighbours Shortwood United on loan.
The teenage striker,17, signed non-contract forms with Ady Pennock's Skrill Premier side last month and has recently returned from a trial at Premiership side Swansea City.
Academy boss Scott Bartlett insists the move will benefit Forest Green and Shortwood.
H e said: " Dan has the chance to play in some games that really matter, in a tough league, for a team striving for the play- offs.
“Usually a young player goes on loans to help a struggling team, this is a great opportunity for him and a good chance for the gaffer (Ady Pennock) and Dave Kevan to see how he copes at that level.”
Stroud-based Martin is set to make his debut against league leaders Merthyr at home this evening (7.45pm).
