Wimborne Town 3 Yate Town 3

YATE Town were denied all three points at Wimborne by a last-minute penalty.

The Bluebells led three times but had to settle for a draw, which leaves them four points outside the play-offs with seven games remaining,

Yate almost took the lead on 25 minutes when a poor header back by defender Ian Oliver sent Lewis Haldane through on goal but Wimborne goalkeeper Jason Harvell was able to block the effort with his legs to keep the scores level.

Five minutes later, Haldane won a free-kick on the edge of the box and a poor defensive wall allowed him to blast a low shot past the scrambling Harvell to open the scoring.

Wimborne however equalised just before the interval when James Davidson was found in a dangerous position. His cross was not dealt with by the Yate defence, and Sam Griffin curled a shot past Martin Horsell.

Ross Staley was introduced at half-time and he made an instant impact, giving Yate the lead on 49 minutes.

A defensive mix-up gave possession straight to Staley, who prodded the ball into the bottom corner of the net with ease.

Yate were then unlucky not to find themselves with a two-goal cushion. Haldane broke into the box and his shot eluded Harvell but a defender headed off the line.

Three minutes later, Wimborne levelled again with a brilliant strike. A fantastic cross-field ball found George Webb at the back post, and his first-time effort fizzed into the bottom corner.

Both sides pushed for the winner, and with 19 minutes remaining, Yate midfielder James Harmer's low shot wasn't dealt with by Harvell, whose parry wasn't enough to stop the effort finding the net.

Substitute Jordan Rogers nearly secured three points for Yate when his long range drive hit the post.

It wasn't until the final minutes of injury time that Wimborne found the equaliser from the penalty spot, Harmer bringing down Scott Arnold after a surging run into the box.

Matt Kemble kept his nerve and found the net from the spot for the hosts to steal a point with almost the last kick of the game.

Mike Bryant was then sent off after the final whistle as he made his anger about the penalty decision well known to the referee.

Yate Town: Horsell, Cox (Staley 45), Clifford, Chandler, Fletcher, Abraham, Harmer, Bryant (c), Bryan (Rogers 60), Haldane, Kamara.

Yate visit Bridgwater Town on Saturday (3pm) and Bishops Cleeve next Tuesday (7.45pm).
