Gloucestershire County Youth League (U18)

Frampton United 2 Thornbury Town 1

FRAMPTON United moved level on points with Thornbury at the top of the table after reversing the defeat they suffered at the hands of their title rivals one week earlier.

The visitors took the lead inside the first five minutes, Josh Pirie heading home after Marcus Wormwell put the home keeper under pressure.

However, the lead was short-lived when Frampton broke well and despite a good save from Henry Roebuck the ball fell to Jamie Power, who drilled home.

An almost carbon copy saw the home side take a 2-1 lead as Sam Wright found the back of the net.

The second half saw James Thomas hit the post and a Toby Bennett free kick acrobatically tipped over by the keeper by Dan Borge as Thornbury suffered their first league defeat since January 2013.

Longwell Green beat bottom club Almondsbury 3-0 away with goals from Sam Wentland, Stuart Harmer and Liam Oswin.

On Thursday, Frampton United will play Mangotsfield United in the GFA U18 Shield at Oaklands Park (7 pm), hoping to make it a hat-trick of wins for Gloucestershire County Youth League sides.
