Carterton 1 Tytherington Rocks 4

TYTHERINGTON Rocks secured promotion with victory at Carterton on Saturday.

Gary Powell's side guaranteed a top two finish and will clinch the title if they win at Malmesbury Victoria tonight.

Kicking off in perfect conditions, Rocks soon took command.

In the fifth minute from a corner on the right by Stuart Nelson the ball was headed out by a defender but met by Joe White on the edge of the box and his powerful shot hit the back of the net to the keeper's left to put Rocks one up.

With Rocks completely out-playing Carterton they went further in front when a pass from Nelson found Sam Taylor, whose low hard cross into the box was met by Justin Bishop, scoring from six yards high into the net.

With chances being created and Rocks playing delightful football, they should have increased their lead when the ball was played into the box for White to run onto and with only the keeper to beat shot straight at the goalkeeper, who blocked his shot.

With just over half an hour gone Rocks scored their third when a hard hit low cross from Alex Chapman on the right was blocked by the keeper with the ball coming out to BIshop, who made no mistake from close in for his double.

The second half started with more determination from Carterton, and they played so much better than in the opening half.

On 67 minutes they got a goal back when Rocks keeper Kevin Freeman's clearance out of the box was picked up by Reace Bayliss, who scored from ten yards to reduce the deficit.

Substitute Nick Peare, on for Chapman, soon restored the three-goal lead. A corner on the left led to a melee in the goalmouth and the ball came out to Peare, who scored from close in.

In the closing minute Rocks nearly scored a fifth goal when a terrific drive by Taylor brought an equally fine save from the home keeper.

On Saturday the Rocks away to Ardley United in the quarter-final of the Bluefin Challenge Cup, 3pm.
