County Cup U16 Final
Cirencester Town 4 Thornbury Town 1
THIS competitive cup final was played in front of a big crowd under floodlights on the artificial turf pitch at Almondsbury on a cold and wet Monday evening.
Thornbury played confidently from the start. Asher Budd took advantage of a loose ball, which slipped out of the keeper’s hands and tapped the ball into the net at close range to put Thornbury in the lead in the 13th minute.
In the last ten minutes of the half Cirencester turned on the pressure and equalised.
On the stroke of half-time Cirencester dramatically took the lead with a header from a free kick and a shocked Thornbury went into the break with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Any chance of Thornbury getting back into the game was shattered late on in the second half when Cirencester extended their lead from a corner.
Cirencester sealed their cup victory in style with their fourth goal in the final seconds of the game, which came from a superb long-range free kick.
