HAMISH Marshall lifted Gloucestershire’s hopes of an unlikely victory against Hampshire going into the final day of their opening County Championship game of the season.

The New Zealander will resume on 84 not out after a vital 92-run ninth wicket stand with David Payne (44) helped Gloucestershire finish the day on 308-9 in their second innings to lead by 190 runs.

Matthew Taylor, 19, had earlier completed the first five-wicket haul of his career (5-75) as Hampshire were eventually bowled out for 422 in their first innings.
