Dursley U14s 25 Cleve U14s 19

DURSLEY beat Cleve to win the Gloucestershire Plate in the final at Cheltenham.

Over the years both sides have played each other on many occasions with the end result always being a tight affair and this occasion was no different.

Dursley started out the stronger with some fine attacking rugby, which resulted in winger Frazer Holroyd scoring two tries in the first 15 minutes of play with Josh Greenlagh converting one of them.

However, through some strong powerful running Cleve came back in the game and scored a penalty try at the end of the half after being camped on Dursley’s line for five minutes.

The second half was tight affair but Dursley conceded more penalties and Cleve took advantage and crashed over the line to take a 14-12 lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Dursley battled back and got a penalty in front of the posts which Greenlagh squeaked over to make the score 15-14.

Cleve came back at Dursley again and broke down the wing to score what looked like the winning try.

However, Dursley kept their composure and maintained possession of the ball until Holroyd broke free once more on the wing to score, putting Dursley 20-19 in front.

With only a minute left Dursley needed to catch the restart and put the ball out of play to secure victory.

However, the ball was dropped and Cleve had an attacking scrum inside Durlsey’s 22.

Cleve pounded Dursley’s defence and looked like they were about to score down the wing when Holroyd intercepted the final pass and sprinted the length of the pitch to secure victory and score his fourth try on the final play.
