Last weekend, three Dursley riders took part in the Swindon Hilly time trial, a 23.4 mile course based near Devizes.

It includes two challenging climbs at Alton Barnes and Blacklands.

It was sunny, chilly with a breeze from the north west, that made it hard along the A4 to Calne.

Derek Smetham began his season by leading the team with a time of 55:59 for seventh place.

Despite his large size that isn’t best suited to climbing, ex-rugby player Simon Williams clocked a fine 57:37 for 11th place and John Sirrett finished in 1:05:09 for 26th.

Dursley Road Club held the first race of their evening series, a 6.8 mile prologue Time Trial on the A38.

Mike Davies continued his early season form with a super quick ride to record 15:15.

Other Dursley riders have been busy riding a variety of open events.

Simon Williams ventured into South Wales and in atrocious weather conditions recorded a superb 52:15 to finish fourth on the R25/3L 25 mile TT.

John Sirett produced a solid 1:21:45 at Malmesbury in the Hardrider Series to finish 17th.

The Dursley trio of Andy Muitt, Sam Evans and Garry Strickland competed in the 25 mile TT ridden on the local U17 circuit, and despite the strong breeze and wet conditions, recorded times of 1:04:32, 1:06:46 and 1:07:20 respectively.
