Calor League Division One South & West

Yate Town 1 Didcot Town 0

YATE Town continued their good run of form in the league by beating Didcot Town at Lodge Road on Saturday.

In a very sloppy first half, Yate were arguably the better of the two sides. They had plenty of possession but were not clinical enough going forward.

The best chance of the half for Yate came from the league's leading goalscorer Lewis Haldane. He was found brilliantly by Jordan Ricketts, but his fizzing drive was saved well by Didcot goalkeeper James Foster.

Mike Bryant also had a header tipped over the bar by Foster at full stretch following James Harmer’s free kick.

Didcot had some very good spells, but rarely threatened. Martin Horsell had to make a great save before the break though, getting down low from Sam Elkins’ effort after a surging run, while he also saved Ben Whitehead’s curling free kick to keep the scores level going into the break.

John Mills spurned a good chance for the visitors just after the interval when he found himself with only Horsell to beat, but lobbed the ball over the bar.

However, Yate looked the better side for long spells and they broke the deadlock on 54 minutes.

Tireless striker Jake Jackson did well to pull the ball back in the box for the unmarked Haldane. The striker’s shot was saved well initially but Foster could not hold onto the ball and it was scrambled over the line for Haldane's 33rd goal of the season.

Yate were dominant from then on and Ricketts volleyed narrowly wide after his first attempt was blocked.

Didcot pushed for an equaliser late on but Mills saw his goal-bound shot blocked by Joe Chandler, while Elkins missed from close range.

Yate visit Clevedon Town in their final away game of the season on Easter Monday (3pm).
