Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One

Sharpness 2 Dursley Town 1

DERBY defeat to Sharpness on Tuesday leaves Dursley in need of a huge favour from the footballing Gods if they are to escape relegation to Northern Senior Two.

Not only must Town beat Brockworth at the Rec on Saturday, but they also need bottom side Bredon to avoid defeat at Lydbrook in order to get out of the drop zone.

Frazer Wilson scored a stunning fifth-minute opener for the Sharks, walloping a 30-yard free-kick into the top corner that rendered Keith Watson’s dive utterly irrelevant.

The visitors responded well, though, and equalised on the half hour when Dan Lees controlled Antonio Forgione’s cross and fired low past Ashley Collard from 15 yards.

Sharpness went back in front shortly before half-time when Ian Watkins was played through the middle and held off the last defender before rounding Watson to score.

Dursley gave it their best shot after the break, but the Sharks came closest to scoring again as Marley Thomas and Watkins were both denied by Watson.
