KIERAN Slater has been named in Great Britain's squad for the European Outdoor Youth Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, taking place next week.

Following a selection shoot of the UK’s top youth archers at Lilleshall the 19-year-old, who grew up in Stinchcombe and is a Bowmen of Minchinhampton member, has been selected in the junior team alongside Ashe Morgan, 19, and Jack Grogan, 19, for the shooting recurve event, which is an Olympic sport.

Rio 2016 hopeful Slater will compete in both the individual and team events.

Great Britain is sending the third largest team to the Championships and will compete with over 300 archers from all over Europe at the Stožice Hippodrome, which is situated outside Slovenia’s capital city Ljubljana for the 14th European Outdoor Youth Championships.

Slater and Morgan are on the Archery GB World Class Program, which is supported by UK Sport and lottery funding.

Lloyd Brown, Olympic coach of Archery GB said: “We have high hopes for our recurve archers at this event. It gives them a chance to shoot against the best archers in their age group, which will tell us exactly where they are at and whether the training in the off season at the regional performance academies has paid dividends.”

Following the qualification round, the archers will compete in a head to head event, run in the same format as the Olympics and Paralympics, with a 70m target for the recurve archers and a 50m target for the compound archers.
