Harry Greening Stroud Charity Cup Semi-Final
Brimscombe & Thrupp 2 Berkeley Town 0
WITH County League's bottom club Berkeley Town facing Hellenic Premier League opponents Brimscombe and Thrupp, this cup tie looked an uneven encounter.
The visitors, however, fought a very competitive match and with Brimscombe looking tired after a 13-match fixture marathon in the month of April it was not surprising that the home side did not secure their progress until well into the second half.
Karl Nash, an ex-Berkeley player himself, came to Brimscombe's aid in spectacular fashion in the 52nd minute with an angled volley from a Ben Prictor cross that brought the crowd in the new stand to their feet.
Ten minutes later Nash was again on target, this time from the penalty spot after Ben Deakin had been tripped in the box.
Brimscombe face another County League side, Frampton United in the final on Tuesday, May 13 (6.30pm) at Stonehouse, where the Lilywhites will be looking for a hat-trick of cup winning trophies.
