Real Thornbury 5 Greyfriars Athletic Reserves 0

REAL Thornbury completed their season with an incredible 100 per cent winning record.

On the most blustery day this year, Greyfriars knew that their task to stop Real would require a big effort.

Thornbury kicked off with the wind in their favour but this was not to be of any help.

The first goal eventually came from a corner in the 34th minute by Dan Lever, who kept it low into the area for Ross Griffin to slot home.

Six minutes later Joe Hulbert received the ball from Mike Barton to score number two.

Playing into the wind, Thornbury still dominated the game.

In the 55th minute Barton made a solo break through the Greyfriars defence, beating any offside trap. One-on-one with the keeper, Barton kept his cool

to drive home past the keeper for number three.

Five minutes later Barton again broke through, this time laying the ball on for Hulbert to score his second and Real’s fourth.

As the minutes ticked away towards the final whistle, Tom Perry at left back sent through a long driving pass to midfielder Andy Rice, who placed the ball past the keeper for Thornbury’s fifth right on the 90th minute.

On the kick of the restart the referee blew for time and Real Thornbury started their champagne celebrations for what has been a fantastic season, in which they also won the GFA Junior Cup.

They played 26 games, gaining 78 points with a goal difference of plus 143.

In the evening The Rats regrouped for their presentation night at The Swan in Tytherington.
