GROOM-TO-BE Yan Klukowski is toasting a double celebration after signing on the dotted line for Newport County AFC .

The 27-year-old former Forest Green attacking midfielder, who is set to marry his long-term sweetheart Sian Perham in Antigua on Monday, penned a two-year deal with the League Two outfit, after turning down a new contract offer at the New Lawn.

He scored 49 league goals in four seasons at the New Lawn, making him Rovers' all-time leading scorer in the Conference.

Klukowski said: “I am very excited about this opportunity and I am delighted to get the chance to play in the Football League.

“Sian and I fly to Antigua on Thursday and we can relax knowing my football future is sorted.”

Chippenham-based Klukowski recalls his time at Forest Green with fondness after former boss David Hockaday offered him a trial following his return from college football in America.

He said: “Forest Green gave me my chance in English football. The club will always remain close to my heart and I’ve made some lifelong friends.

“We massively under-achieved at the club, and that will always eat away at me.

“I will always keep an eye out for their results and I hope they make it into the Football League.”

“I love the club and I've dedicated my life to Forest Green for the last four seasons, putting my body on the line and trying my hardest to be a team player.”

Klukowski equalled Alex Meechan's previous Conference record of 46 goals last season, and in his final game for Rovers, he scored from the penalty spot at champions Luton Town to finish on 49 goals from 160 matches.

Newport have also signed former Forest Green captain  Darren Jones on a one-year deal from AFC Wimbledon.
