Ken Barrington U13 National Cup Second Round

Rockhampton (115-6) beat Chipping Sodbury (85-3) by 30 runs

ROCKHAMPTON beat Chipping Sodbury to move one game away from the South Glos group final.

Sodbury gave first use of the bat to the home side on a drying pitch, with Adam Deverill and Jamie Vowles putting on a solid opening stand of 19 runs.

Samuel Long (25) smoothly upped the tempo, hitting three quick boundaries and rotating the strike with quick singles before sacrificing his wicket.

Cameron Gander made a big impression on debut at the other end, hitting strongly from the crease to finish on an impressive 35 not out – the pair put on 78 together to help set the visitors a challenging target from a reduced 18 overs.

Sodbury matched the home side's opening start, but when Long bravely stopped a full on-drive to run out Lawrence, the visitors fell behind the required rate.

Sam Pearmain decisively picked up the other two wickets to fall, finishing with figures of 2-12 from three overs in his second start for the Rams.
