WOTTON Rovers under-10s finished runners-up in the Champions League Tournament at Frampton-on-Severn.

They successfully negotiated the group stages, beating Shire Colts 1-0 and King's Stanley 2-0.

Captain McKenzie Hannigan and Joel Langdon put in dominant performances in defence, enabling midfielders Jack Powell, Gabriel Scudder, Alex Bishop and Ethan Smith to run affairs.

Jamie Stacey was his usual clinical self and scored all three goals to put the boys in to the final.

Wotton met Rockleaze Rangers in the final and it proved to be a cracker.

Jamie Kershaw was simply outstanding in goal, pulling off some incredible saves to keep his team in the game against a formidable Rockleaze attack.

But there was nothing he could do when the opposition took the lead midway through the second half.

Wotton would not lay down and with seconds to go a glorious ball from Hannigan was taken on the turn by Stacey, who struck the ball sweetly on the volley and fired past the keeper high in to the net.

The game was sent in to extra-time but the brave Wotton boys ended up runners-up in the competition for the second year in a row when a goalmouth scramble saw Rockleaze triumph 2-1.

The team are looking for new players to join their successful squad.
