FOREST Green Rovers have signed former Mansfield Town left-back James Jennings on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old clocked up 33 League Two appearances with Mansfield Town last season and moves on a free transfer after making 46 appearances for the club in total since joining in January of 2013, becoming the club’s fourth summer signing.

Jennings, who was a youth player at Manchester City, also spent three years at Cambridge United from 2010, where he made nearly 100 appearances and was vice-captain.

Manager Ady Pennock said: “James is a very good left-back, strong defensively and good going forward.

“He won promotion from this league with Mansfield the season before last, played in League Two last season, and he’s very keen to get back into that league with us.

“I’ve done a lot of homework on him, he’s a very good pro, he looks after himself off the field, and loves his football.

“James is here to compete with Chris Stokes, not to replace him; Stokesy’s not going anywhere, we want to keep our best players.”
